Wake County Public Schools Announces Redistricting Plan

On Nov 15, 2008 Wake County Public Schools published their 3 year plan for redistricting nodes.
This resulted in our node and a few surrounding nodes to
change our base high school to CARY High

What can I do to help?
- Sign the petition (if you missed us) please contact Rob Galvin 749.0703 or robertgalvinjr@hotmail.com
- Submit your comment on Wake County School website http://ap2008.wcpss.net/assignment-proposal/nodes/381.1.html
- Go to the public meeting: Dec. 1 at Cary High, 638 Walnut Street, Cary, NC
-
Help spread the word - Make some noise!!!

What is WCPSS reasoning behind this decision?
"...to allow middle school students to move to high school with their peers, and to decrease the percentage of low-income students at Cary High to make Cary High more aligned with the county average for low-income students." -

The first part of the statement is contradictory to what is happening - our children would not be going to High School with their peers. Our nodes go to Laurel Park Elementary (previously Baucom), then on to Salem Middle. The majority of kids in these schools are from Apex and in fact 90% of the kids from Salem Middle will not be moving to Cary HS.

Although the numbers on WCPSS website show an impact on the F&R% for Cary HS 38% -> 24% an Apex 12% ->15%. There are nodes that have the same impact that should be moved instead. These nodes have more peers moving to Cary HS as opposed to our. In addition, we feel the numbers that are using are over estimated to help bolster their argument.

Who is being noded out of Apex High?
Node 381.1 includes the following subdivisions: Salem Woods, St. James, Bishop's Gate, Weathersby, The Trace, plus individual homes on Salem Church Rd and N. Salem St.

Node 381.7 includes the following subdivisions: Olde Salem, Linville Ridge, Foxwerth, and Park Place.
